Baby Beth Doll Clothes
When I was growing up in the late 70s (yep! Am that old!) One of my most concentrated activities was to re-arrange and change my Baby Beth doll clothes. And I think I was like every other 5 year old girl in the neighborhood at that time because the baby Beth dolls were really very popular. No set of parents could bear the wrath of a little girl by not getting her one of these cuties?
Fisher – Price, produced the ‘Baby Beth’, a very real looking 15.5” doll with a cloth body and vinyl body parts. Brought out in 1978, the toy was an instant success primarily because of the endearing Baby Beth doll clothes which could be changed and hence gave kids something ‘to do’ with the doll.
Fisher Price packaged the doll in a lovely pink box, making the whole idea of ‘baby dolls’ even stronger. The doll is a blonde with blue eyes and wears a pink knitted cap, sweater and booties. Along with the doll came a pamphlet explaining how to care for her. But what gave the Baby Beth dolls a place in every little girl’s heart was a pattern to make 2 extra outfits – a baby sleeper and a hooded jacket. This ensured the popularity of the Baby Beth because now kids had an activity to carry out rather than passively holding the doll.
The Baby Beth doll was numbered 209 when it hit the shelves in 1978 and is till date a popular doll collectors’ item. But these dolls are not easy to find since Fisher Price started making dolls only in 1974 and not many pieces may exist. However, there is a renewed interest in these dolls and you can find one with the aid of the Internet. Try your luck at online stores and auction sites…. Who Seeks, Finds!
